MARIO BELLINI
Italian architect Mario Bellini was born in 1935 and he graduated in 1959 at the University of Milan. Internationally renowned architect and designer, he deals with architecture, urban design, interior design and industrial design. Among the numerous prizes he has won, we would like to remember the “Compasso d’oro” (which he won eight times) and the “Medaglia d’Oro” Awards, conferred by the President of the Italian Republic. In 2011 he receive the “Ambrogino d’oro”: a prize for the most prestigious citizen of Milan. Mario Bellini held conferences both in Italy and abroad and he has been director of the “Domus” magazine from 1985 to 1991. 25 of the works of Bellini are included in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, which dedicated to him a personal retrospective in 1987. From the 1980s onwards, he has been working on a wide range of architectural projects, such as: the neighborhood “Portobello di Fiera” in Milan, the “Exibhition Centre” in Villa Erba (Como), the “Tokyo Design Center” in Japan, the “Natuzzi Headquarters” in the USA, The Essen’s Fair in Germany, the “National Gallery of Victoria” in Melbourne, the “Department of Islamic Arts” of Louvre in Paris and the new “Milano Convention Center”, the biggest center for conferences and conventions in Europe. Mario Bellini is currently studying the project of the “new city” of Zhenjiang in China and a residential, cultural and sports complex in Doha, Qatar.
