TIMO SARPANEVA
Professor Timo Sarpaneva was an industrial designer and artist who brought Finnish design to be appreciated internationally through his creations. He was able to ennoble everyday objects by making them art because he was able to interpret their function through a poetic vision. Although he worked with various materials his favorite was glass. Among his works there are pieces for Iittala such as the Claritas vase collection (1983) and the Orkidea vase (1953). Other products created for Iittala are, among others, the famous cast iron pot and the Festivo candlesticks. In 1956 he designed the famous logo with the “I” for the company Iittala.
